Chakra Five: Throat Chakra – Vishuddha.
Creative identity, oriented to self-expression.
Located above the breastbone and in the throat and is thus related to communication and creativity.
Here you experience the world symbolically through vibration, such as the vibration of sound representing language.
Self expression, creativity ( art , dance, music).
Physical: Mouth, throat, ears, vocal chords, trachea, oesophagus.
Colour: Sky Blue.
Scents: Sage, Eucalyptus.
Crystals: Aquamarine, Turquoise.
Bija Mantras/ Seed Sounds: Ham.
Musical Note: G.
Tone of Mercury 141.27 Hz.
When the Vishuddha Chakra is working you are able to listen without judgement, you can express our thoughts, feelings without fear. You remain true to yourself, you are able to say “no” and other’s opinions will not manipulate us.
When the Vishuddha Chakra is blocked you can grind our teeth, have a stiff neck, shoulder tension, throat ailments, excessive talking, inability to listen. You deny your emotions, you try not to show your weaknesses and must appear strong at all costs. Your speech is business like, you may stutter, you may express unresolved emotions in thoughtless actions.
To balance the Vishuddha Chakra you can experience nature – looking at a cloudless blue sky, clear stretches of water and the reflections of the sky within it. You can chant, sing or even hum. Reading aloud, listen to music or have a Reiki or Sound healing treatment.
Forms of Yoga that work primarily with the Throat Chakra: Mantra Yoga.
Yoga Poses* that involve The Throat Chakra; Seated cat cow*, Fish Pose*, Legs up the wall pose*.
A simple thing like Legs up the wall pose*.
Please make sure the Yoga poses listed for each Chakra are appropriate for you. If you have any history of illness or injury, please be sure the postures are safe for you to do before you practice. Each posture has contraindications. Please ensure you are familiar with these before trying a pose. Some times the best course of action is not to do the pose. If you do decide to practice – do so mindfully and back out of the posture if it doesn’t feel right for you in any way.
It’s generally considered better to open the Chakras from the lower Chakras up. Starting with a solid foundation and building up from there.
