Chakra Seven: The Crown Chakra – Sahasrara.

Thought, Universal identity, oriented to self-knowledge.

Located at the crown of the head. The Crown Chakra is also known as thousand leaved Lotus.

The Crown Chakra relates to consciousness as pure awareness. It is your connection to the greater world beyond, to a timeless place of all-knowing.

When developed, this chakra brings you knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection, and bliss.

The universal life force energy (Chi) flows through this Chakra into the body and on to the other Chakras.

Opening this Chakra means a way of opening the other Chakras as well, in balance and free flowing energy.

When the Sahasrara Chakra is working you have a higher purpose, connected with spirit, thought. You are ready to let go of ideas of who you think we are and why you are here. You feel free.

When the Sahasrara Chakra is blocked you can be too interested in spiritual pursuits to the detriment of practical things that need attention. You can be confused, feel a lack of connection to the “real ” world, you have an inability to be practical or do practical things. We feel separated.

To balance the Sahasrara Chakra you can experience nature – time alone on the top of a mountain will help open up this Chakra. You can have a Reiki or Sound healing session.

Forms of Yoga that work primarily with the Crown Chakra: Jnana Yoga, Meditation.

Yoga Poses* that involve The Crown Chakra; Baby Eagle Pose*, Inversions – e.g. Supported Headstand Pose*, Downward dog.

Caution*

Please make sure the Yoga poses listed for each Chakra are appropriate for you. If you have any history of illness or injury, please be sure the postures are safe for you to do before you practice. Each posture has contraindications. Please ensure you are familiar with these before trying a pose. Some times the best course of action is not to do the pose. If you do decide to practice – do so mindfully and back out of the posture if it doesn’t feel right for you in any way.

It’s generally considered better to open the Chakras from the lower Chakras up. Starting with a solid foundation  and building up from there.
