What is Reiki?

I serendipitously found Reiki and loved it – almost to my surprise, as I would have been pretty sceptical before hand. I may be spiritual, but I’m a scientist at heart! Reiki is now also part of my everyday. I don’t speak about it unless people are curious, as I believe that you are in charge of your own healing- when and if the time is right for you- you’ll find Reiki.

Originating in Japan, Reiki is an energy healing technique, which can allow you to reduce stress, clear your mind and balance body, mind and spirit. It is not a religion or dogmatic in anyway. You do not have to ” believe” in Reiki for it to work.

The word Reiki is made up of two words. Rei – meaning Universal, Higher knowledge & wisdom or Divine Consciousness. Ki or Chi – meaning life force energy or Prana.

This life force energy flows through us when we are alive and leaves us when we die.  Chi flows through our aura and through various pathways in our bodies called meridians, nadis and Chakras. When this energy flow is disrupted or out of balance, it can lead to illness. How we think and what we think has an impact on our Chi which then impacts our physical health. How we think everyday impacts our stress hormones, our posture and how we feel about our lives. Negative thoughts and emotions impact on our Chi causing blockages in our body which can lead to illness.

From a scientific point of view Energy cannot be created nor destroyed.

A Reiki practitioner channels this universal energy through their hands and into the energy field of the person being treated. Reiki works by energy flowing to affected areas in of the energetic field allowing it to be filled, raising the vibration of the energy field. This lets blockages shift and clears the energy path ways in the person. When your Chi flows freely you are less likely to get sick.

By balancing the Chakras we can balance our physical ,mental, emotional health and wellbeing. By helping the flow of Chi we restore our body’s natural healing capacity and promote relaxation, stress reduction and the improvement of overall health and well being.

A Reiki session shifts energy blockages in your body to allow your body’s natural healing to take place. It can reduce stress, promote relaxation, improve healing, complement conventional medicine without interfering with it and support your body’s natural healing abilities.
